Godfather
Maybe it is just me, but IMHO, The Godfather and Godfather II are the best movies ever made. As the years go by, nothing seems to dim the excellence of their viewing magic.
Certainly they are gory. And the values expressed are not shared by many, but the intensity of the effort comes home to your gut and you are pulled into the movie magic without any effort...it seems.
